It’s hard to be green!
Recipes in this Post
There are some foods that are traditions, yet only a small subset of my family actually eats them. As a kid growing up, we always had a green bean casserole on the table. Depending on the exact combination of family members, the casserole dish might be cleaned out, or half the casserole might be left over.
With my immediate family, the green bean casserole is pretty much a non-starter. I put it on the menu every year. I even make it most years, at least for Thanksgiving or Christmas. But then I remember that hardly anyone likes it. I’m not a big fan of reheating too much of this casserole, so it sometimes goes to waste.
A couple of days ago, when I made the menu on the front page I included the green bean casserole. Now I’m having second thoughts. I may make the green beans another way. Or I might just save them for another day. I just haven’t decided.
But, for completeness sake, here’s the traditional green bean casserole recipe that I use. Like most of my recipes, it has more spicing than the standard versions that you’ll find elsewhere. I also do tend to add bacon to mine to see if I can entice anybody else to eat this casserole. I don’t usually win that battle though.
