Gadgets in this Post
I used to be a firm believer that anything that couldn’t be mixed by hand wasn’t worth mixing. I figured you could use a fork or maybe a spoon to mix up the stiffest cookie dough. A fork or whisk could handle the eggs that needed to be beaten. And if worst came to worst, you could mix the really tough stuff (like meatloaf) with your hands.
But I’ve finally come around and learned that a hand mixer is a really neat gadget to have in the kitchen, especially if you’re cooking for a lot of people or you have a lot of mixing to do.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas just behind us, I’ve used my Sunbeam Heritage Hand Mixer like crazy. It’s been helpful for dessert recipes, but it’s really done yeoman’s duty in making large batches of mashed potatoes. Not the kind that you re-hydrate from a box, but rather the kind that you make from scratch.
This gadget has held up like a champ through batches of 5, 3, and 5 pounds of potatoes. Having the ability to set this device down in the stand and have the beaters sit over the mashed potatoes makes it a lot less messy. It’s also pretty lightweight, so I was able to hold it the entire time. The variable speed has always worked great.
If you’re looking for a gift for someone who might benefit from a hand mixer, you can’t go wrong with this model. Quite honestly, I love mine!
