Do you smell that? No, not the trash that needs to be taken out (what are those kids waiting for anyway…it’s one of their chores). I mean the wonderful aroma of the slow-cooker full of chicken soup I’m making for dinner (and beyond). I know, it’s not really fair for me to talk about what I can smell in my house…but it smells so good! The all-day nature of cooking in the slow-cooker coupled with the thought of a steaming bowl of soup for dinner has had me salivating all day.
The best part of Autumn are the comfort foods that we get to enjoy. During the summer it’s just too hot to deal with soups, stews, and chili. But during the Fall those foods come into play regularly here at Hectic Manor. I love the time-savings, the blended flavors, and the ability to package what we don’t eat into meals for other days. I can easily prep and cook for one day and get four meals out of the deal. Talk about time savings!
Listed below are ten of my favorite recipes for soups and chili. I’ve been tweaking these recipes for years, so I won’t take offense if you make any changes. While these are great recipes as they are, feel free to make them your own. If you want to share your changes in the comments below, that would be awesome too. We’re all here to learn how to make it a great day in the kitchen, and there’s no better way than sharing your experiences and ideas!
