With Thanksgiving in the US on the 28th of November, the gap between digesting my Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes and the start of the Christmas season seemed to be a blink of an eye. Throw in the new Black/Brown Thursday shopping, the now-traditional Black Friday shopping, and a weekend of travel and it seems like we’re hip deep in Christmas without a breather.
While we don’t attend a lot of holiday parties, we do interact with a lot more people than much of the rest of the year, and much of that interaction involves food. Whether it’s just a snack, a meal at a restaurant, a Christmas party, or a meal at home…Winter food tends to be heavier and more abundant than other times of the year.
Maybe it’s just a perception, but there is so much good food around that appears just once a year. From cookies to nuts to candy to eggnog, there are some things that you just want to eat and eat and eat. For one, I’m really guilty of that.
So, for the next couple of weeks we’re going to be working on posting some old holiday recipes. To offset the decadence of some of those recipes, we’re going to also post some options that are of lighter fare. Things to help make the day less of a mess for your healthy eating plans. From scrumptious breakfasts that don’t pack on the calories (and pounds) to lighter lunches that don’t take an eon to prepare, we’re going to be working really hard to help you keep your eating healthy and fun.
